Toirtis's Achievements

  1. I use a french press, but the inlaws have a Nespresso (Latissima premium).....I like it well enough, and have been considering one for our place. The Nespresso reps seem to always be at Home Outfitters when I go there....I get a lot of free coffees.

    A good pipe?

You can pick up some very nice estate pipes for around $40-$50....much better quality than you can new. That being said, a Brigham, or Lorenzetti are good, inexpensive new buys. There are a lot of dealers that sell cleaned, refurbished estates for really good deals, too, such as smokingpipes.com....a great way to get a better-quality pipe for 1/2-1/3 of what it would be new. If you have any questions on any particular brand/pipe, please ask, and we will be happy to help.

    A good pipe?

Thank you. Absolutely correct. Gillette began with a full bent, so that audiences could better see his mouth, and so that he could deliver his lines better...he then moved to a calabash (various stories as to why, including visibility and making it his trademark...likely a bit of both are true)....after that, the general public have always associated the calabash with Holmes, and vice versa.
  4. Merrells....best damned all-around shoe.
  5. Current: Ripper Street Grimm Big Bang Theory The Newsroom American Horror Story Sherlock Elementary Doctor Who Downton Abbey Dracula Sleepy Hollow Doc Martin Past: Monarch of the Glen Monty Python's Flying Circus Inbetweeners Waiting for God Red Dwarf Blackadder Upstairs Downstairs (1970s) Wire in the Blood Black Books Kukla, Fran and Ollie Touching Evil Rumpole of the Bailey Dalziel and Pascoe I, Claudius To the Manor Born Sherlock Holmes (1980s) Antiques Roadshow Last of the Summer Wine ...and others, but I am tired of typing.
  6. I almost picked up a set of unused vintage cigar holders at a recent local antiques sale, primarily for display, but I had considered trying one out....seemed like it would be a bit odd, but worth a go.
  7. Recently went to a local scotch tasting, had a great evening and sampled 91 bottles....went home with some. Most recent pick up was a 10 year Talisker.
  8. I believe Burlington on Whyte carries it. I want some too, so will need to see if I have anyone who can snag some and bring it down.
  9. My pack is something between the three-step and the Frank.....just a way I slowly developed in the first decade that I smoked pipe, and it has done me well ever since. For a tool, my usual is a 1960s Richards Sheffield 2 blade pipe tool....it is heftier and more sturdy than the Czech tools, and I like the way it feels. I rarely feel the need to dry any of my pipe tobaccos, but when I do, it is almost never for more than a half-hour.
  10. Go is the ultimate game, but it is difficult to find local players here.
  11. There is a blast from the past....I remember playing Bloodbowl in the late '80s, along with Mechwarrior and Axis and Allies.
