canuckswin
Just saw this new campaign on Indigogo, apparently an Ontario company. I like the product, but the price is killer. Anyone seen any other good alternatives? https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/blume-world-s-first-smart-cigar-humidifier-app#/ CigarZenRob and mcicvara

Rye
First off, that name makes me cringe. The last thing I want to see starting on my sticks is "Blüme", and secondly the cost of this unit is way too high for me. It will be out pricing the boxes it's sitting in

Anyone seen any other good alternatives? https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/blume-world-s-first-smart-cigar-humidifier-app#/ Hey everyone - Rob from Cigar Zen here. Happy to come across our campaign link! We love hearing feedback, both good and bad (helps us grow!), so thanks to everyone commenting. In terms of pricing, we're confident our $295 price tag (actually $195 through Indiegogo right now) reflects the product and its features well. Cigar Oasis is currently our closest competitor and ranges from about $119 to $199, lacking all of the connected features we've integrated with BLÜME. So for the higher price you're getting an all-in-one system that keeps you connected to your humidor at all times, without any additional costs of add-ons. You buy it, set and it forget it. If anyone has any specific questions about the product or wants to chat humidity let me know. This really is a passion of mine so I'd love to connect. mcicvara

mcicvara
I like the design and technology behind this product, but even the 'super early bird price' (CAN$ 264 + ship) is still too high for average BOTL considering it's designed for desktops and small cabinet humidors (correct me if I'm wrong @CigarZenRob). What's the maximum volume or number of cigars Blüme can handle?

What's the maximum volume or number of cigars Blüme can handle? Thanks @mcicvara! We've spent a lot of time perfecting this so it's cool to hear the good comments about the design and tech behind it. And you're right, BLÜME's designed for your standard humidor. It can currently handle up to around 500 cigars. Apologies for posting the USD price above, that may have been misleading. We're still super confident that the system is worth a bit of extra dough for the features it has. Keep in mind too that if this initial funding campaign is successful it'll open the doors for a little Canadian company like ourselves in the big US-driven cigar market and help us create more products in the future at potentially lower price points. If you love the idea but are unable to make a purchase of the device we'd love even a $2 donation. Any little bit helps the little guy [solicitation over, I promise lol]. Thanks again for your interest, it's awesome to see.
Rye
I do love seeing and supporting Canadian start ups, but the development and startup cost, plus cost of manufacturing seems out to lunch to me. It feels like it was set before production and based solely off of the nearest competition with a "they charge that, and we're better so let's charge this" type of mentality. These are my opinions and thoughts, so please don't take them as an attack. This is likely the type of feedback you may see once you hit the cigar communities online on Instagram and the like which are the easiest way to get word out and spread. The big popular feeds like @cigarsnlife @cigarsmokingmodel and a few others could be fantastic campaign tools in your funding

The big popular feeds like @cigarsnlife @cigarsmokingmodel and a few others could be fantastic campaign tools in your funding Don't worry, I don't take that as an attack at all. It's good that people be honest with us so that we can take everything we hear and use it for progress. So thank you! Our budget breakdown on the Indiegogo page is totally accurate to what we've discussed with both our product engineering team and the manufacturer. Where manufacturing gets tricky and expensive is the introduction of different colours and finishes. In order to get all of the Perks shipped within the same time frame, different finishes = different tooling. We could have just stuck with one simple design, but not everyone's humidor has the same look and feel so we wanted to incorporate that into our design. We actually had plans for even more finishes, including a digi-camo design to reflect the military interest, but at this point we've had to scale back to just the faux-leather and carbon fiber to keep costs at bay. Long story short, [insert bias point here] WE ARE BETTER! [/bias] But in all seriousness, a lot did go into the budget making process, on top of manufacturing even. Thanks for those Instagram accounts! We've been fairly active on there but weren't following those guys yet so thanks for the tip.
