There’s a lot to think about when you smoke a cigar. But lighting it should be a no-brainer. Brand Padron Name Exclusivo Maduro Vitola Robusto Country of Origin Nicaragua Wrapper/Filler/Binder Nicaragua Box Code Unknown Date Smoked January 2, 2015 Paired With Coffee Tasting Notes Beautifully constructed with a unique flavour profile. Padron is winning! I had a little free time this morning so I lit up a Padron 1964 Exclusivo Maduro. I’ve actually been on a bit of a Padron kick lately as I’m finding they are often unique, terrific cigars. It’s a great looking cigar with a deep brown maduro wrapper. It’s got a pronounced box press which makes it seem slightly skinnier than your usual robusto. On…
Good news, cigar smokers: one of the terms of the big new US-Cuba deal is that American visitors to the island will be allowed to bring back up to $100 in alcohol and tobacco products. Previously, that was forbidden. For decades now, the ban on imports from Cuba has given its cigars a certain cachet in the United States, but it’s worth asking: are they really that much better than ones from, say, Nicaragua or the Dominican Republic? Brand Partagas Name 898 Vitola Lonsdale Country of Origin Cuba Wrapper/Filler/Binder Cuban Box Code AUM FEB 14 Date Smoked November 1, 2014 Paired With Captain & Coke Tasting Notes A fantastic cigar considering its age. Leather & honey predominately. This was a great cigar overall. Considering these are less than a year old, I think these could turn into something special. There was a lot of complexity in this cigar with leather, honey and baking spices. In the last third earthy, grassy notes appeared. A classic in the making.
Pretty good article here from Maxim about what “spicy” means when describing a cigar…For what its worth I think Terence Reilly, GM of Quesada gets it right. Check out the article below. — Back in his day, your grandpa could smoke a couple of boxes a week and still taste his meals. No longer. Cigar stores have gotten so much darker it can look like someone is leaning on the dimmer. Light brown has gotten downright muddy, and because much of a cigar’s flavor…
