| Tasting Notes | An outstanding first third giving way to “just ok” |
This past Friday I decided it was time to revisit the “Epi 2.” I have reviewed this cigar in the past and found it to be pretty good, but nothing near the rave reviews I tend to come across online.
This particular sample is quite young – from March of 2013. With less than a year of age, how will this cigar perform?
The prelight aroma on the cigar is fantastic. Sweetness in spades. I give it a punch cut and the cold draw is a tad too tight.
I light it up and the first few draws are fantastic! I can taste gingerbread, honey and brown sugar. The finish is long and delicious. The draw in the early stages is a little too firm but it gets better early in the smoke.
The first third of this cigar is absolutely fantastic. Tons of sweetness with a nice rich body. Unfortunately, the cigar mutes a lot in flavour after the first third. The sweetness subsides and I’m left with a pretty ordinary cigar. It reminds me a little bit of a Liga Privada T52 I reviewed in the past. That smoke had a great start as well and transformed into an average smoke.
I’m still rating this Epi 2 quite high as I believe they do show promise.
