The Future of Pipe Smoking in Canada by Charles Lemon (DADSPIPES), All Rights Reserved, January 2019 Tobacco is under attack – and losing. Unless you’ve been living in a fallout shelter for the last 30 years, no one should be shocked to hear this. Most of us have grown up hearing about the evils of tobacco and the industry behind it. Anti-smoking campaigns, increased understanding of the effects of smoking on human health, and restrictive legislation at all levels of government have combined to see tobacco use decline sharply over the last two decades. By: DADSPIPES Posted on: SEPTEMBER 16, 2015 Down near the bottom of my box of estate pipes to refurb was this Yello Bole Standard Brylon octagonal billiard. I had noticed the unique shape of the bowl when the auction lot arrived, but I figured I had better do some research before playing with this pipe too much. According to Pipedia, Brylon was invented in 1966 by the S.M. Frank & Co Ltd as a cheap alternative to briar. Brylon consists of a resin material mixed with “wood flour” (aka sawdust). By: DADSPIPES Posted on: APRIL 16, 2016 I had a pair of Brigham pipes sent to me for some work, a 2-Dot Sportsman model bulldog and a 318 billiard. I…

By DADSPIPES Posted on:OCTOBER 3, 2016 Updated on February 8, 2018 As both a Canadian and a pipe lover, it is perhaps inevitable that I hold a special place in my heart for Canadian-made pipes, especially those produced by Brigham Pipes, one of the country’s oldest pipe-makers, and one that has survived two World Wars, the Great Depression, countless lesser economic upheavals, and the more recent and radical cultural shift away from tobacco use. I have dozens of vintage Brigham pipes in my personal collection, and over time I have developed some fluency for identifying and dating the various examples of briarwork,…

By Patrick Lagreid @phxcigarguy · On November 30, 2018 For the bulk of its 42-year history, the name Elie Bleu was familiar with a singular thing in the world of cigars: high-end humidors. At the 2016 IPCPR Convention & Trade Show, the company rolled a slew of new products that the company released as part of its 40th anniversary celebration that seemed to not just be a milestone, but the start of a new chapter in the company’s history. Included in the…
