PolarBear
I am hoping to enjoy a few more cigars this winter than in the past so I am looking for some input from the CCF crew. I would like to buy a decent heater that will only be used when I am sitting in the garage enjoying a cigar. I live in the lower mainland of BC so temperatures are a joke compared to most of you (we hit minus 5 last week and that was extreme for us) so I shouldn't require anything too crazy. Any information or experiences with different options is appreciated. Thanks
quickme
I have a Mr buddy heater and it's great. You can hook up a 20 lb tank to it and it'll last for quite a while. It'll run you about $100. buck
Just bought a presto heater from Costco, works great direct line of site heat so you don;t have to heat the whole garage. https://www.costco.ca/presto-heatdish-plus-parabolic-heater.product.100511223.html Sanchez and PolarBear 1
toshibala
I have the exact same heater Buck recommended. It gets quite warm with it turned on HIGH. I smoke on the balcony and not in the garage so it should be even warmer. PolarBear

tricam_bob
Do you have a preference between electric and propane? Both options so far are good choices in their category. I like the portability of both. I'm not promoting it, I mean influence your choice, but I went for one with a wall mount option and then rigged up a way to distribute the warmth. Worth it to me as I do seem to spend a fair amount of time out here. 10,000 BTU (wanted 6,000 but lowest I could find) hooked up to a 40 lb propane tank with a 20 lb backup. Told the wife we could also use it when the earthquake comes quickme, Sanchez, toshibala and 1 other 3

Zedman05
I just grabbed an old furnace from an install we did and use that. Overkill, I know, but it is toasty all winter. Your biggest problem is going to be ventilation. Burning a fuel, directly into the air you breath, can be an issue for long periods. If you open your garage periodically, that will clean some smoke and also products of combustion out, but theoretically it will build up. I have always been skeptical of that style. A small low-profile garage heater is the best option, even though it is not the cheapest as it vents products of combustion outside. Just my 2 cents. I have 2 3 inch holes in the inside wall as the exhaust fan needs to be balanced but which also serve as a source of fresh air. My 'dream' setup was an RV propane furnace on the other side of the wall blowing the hot air into the cigar room. Then I found that heater for $100. Siglo
I use the propane ones when it gets really cold, but the infrared works well when sitting underneath it. Sanchez and PolarBear
comanchekeen
Depends on the size of space your trying to heat but I will give one more vote for the Mr Heater buddy. Throws way more heat than my Honeywell electric. My garage isn’t tight construction by any means so no issues with the products of combustion. Grab a hose to hook onto a 20lb bottle and it lasts a long time. PolarBear
toshibala
Lately I've been considering getting the "Paramount Stainless-steel Patio Heater" from Costco to put on my balcony... Has anyone tried putting one of these units on the balcony of an apartment building? I think it should be much warmer than the Heatdish heater.... My bro in law uses his in his garage all winter for his recently legalized smoke breaks lol. We monitor it but they throw all the heat downward and outward so it seems to be slightly safer than it looks.
