CoronaPhil Posted May 2, 2019 Posted May 2, 2019 Hi all, Finally getting the chance to pull the trigger on my first time to Cuba. Looking at 4.5 and 5 star places and I would like to know whether there is a difference or whether it is a resort to resort sort of thing. We’re looking at the Paradisus Princesa DM resort and wonder if it’s actually much better than a 4.5 and I spend the difference on cigars. Anyways, very interested in your opinions. Thanks! cigar_puffer Posted May 2, 2019 Posted May 2, 2019 From what I have heard, if you go to the Paradisus Princesa del Mar, the Royal service makes a big difference in the overall experience. My wife and I are going there at the end of June. 2 of my sisters, 1 brother and their spouses all went to Sanctuary at Grand Memories and were all very happy with this resort. CoronaPhil 1 Quote
dvickery Posted May 2, 2019 Posted May 2, 2019 A 5 star hotel in Cuba would be a 3 star (or less) hotel in any other country . i never went to Cuba looking for the best resort ... it is the safest country outside of Canada I ever went to . just remember this ... if you get drunk and start chasing the local women ... it don’t matter which country you are in ... you will find trouble . have fun derrek Sanchez, CoronaPhil, mcicvara and 2 others 1 4 Quote
Fatso Posted May 3, 2019 Posted May 3, 2019 Minimum 4 star is a must imo. Food at resorts is generally awful and water contamination can occur. The better resorts in Varadero have independant water filtration systems, slightly better food, and certainly cleaner accomodations. Trip Advisor is your best friend. Some four star places are horrible, some are exceptional. Really it depends on what is important to you. When I go, I need AC that works, decent food and clean rooms. The rest doesn't really matter. As Derrek says, a 5 star in Cuba will have the amenities that make it a five star, but will really only be a 3 star in Mexico or D.R. based on rooms and food and so on... Mistur_Jay 1 Quote
