Louich
Thought I started a thread to talkabout scotch. Whats your favorite, the latest you tried, best bang for the buck etc...So heres my little list to start upMy favorite: Talisker 18 and Bruichladdich 17And the best bang for the buck I found was : Benromach peat smoke and Bruichladdich wavesYou can now stop the speculations about me being a Bruichladdich whore lol..Last night was a fairly good soiree. We tried laphroaig 18 yrs and the triple wood and then finished the tasting with a Lagavulin 16 yrs...
cigars_eh
I came across this map and i find very useful, im sure it will help everyone here out too. If there is a scotch you like, it helps you find others in similar taste profiles. My Favourites are Laphroaig 10yr, Coal Ila 12yr and Lagavulin 16yr. As for cheap options i find that i enjoy whiskey from other regions like Canadian Club and Jamesons. mcicvara
Louich
If you can get your hands on the Laphroaigtriple wood of the quater cask I know you'll like those. Coal Ila is also a very nice dram... And seriously is there someone who does not like a Lagavulin 16 yrs ? lol
Dan-o
Lots of laphroiag lovers here, that's awesome. Anyone else a FOL? Personally the 10 yr is my favorite. The 18yr I bought thinking it would be richer and a mellower version of the 10 yr. But I don't think the extra aging benefits laphroaig, the 10 has everything I look for in scotch and the 18 is lighter in body and the smokiness has mellowed a bit too much. I'm not complaining though, they're both great (the quarter cask too) but 10 yr is much better. You know, in my opinion.
cigars_eh
I had to Google "FOL", I didnt know Laphroiag had something like this set up. I have to make sure i keep the booklet and signup with my next Laphroaig purchase.
Louich
Well I would tend to say that the 18 yrs has more of a mineral touch compared to less aged drams. I notcied the same phemonenon with some Islay (Laphroaig, Coal Ila, Lagavulin mostlyd) and the Talisker brands. Speaking of wich, last night I had a 'return to the basics' momment and opened a Talisker 10 and follwed it up with a Laphroaig quater cask... The Talisker packs a big punch and is nothing like other version of their products (distillers ed and 18 yrs come to mind). It was a gift and know I'll appreciate it but I would never pay the price they sell that bottle here. I'd rather buy a Ile of Jura superstition and be done with it ! cigars_eh
I am now a member of the FOL, interesting site they got going on there. They are doing 3 FOL events in Canada, anyone here going to it? another point of interest; I recently came across and joined a cigar club in Toronto. i'm going to my first meet with them on Monday (this is a public club open to anyone interested). The pub they are going to will have the Glenlivet rep doing FREE tasters of 3 different years of Glenlivet (im not sure which ones) and the pub will be handing out free cigars as a cigar appreciation thing. Can't go wrong with free tasters of Glenlivet and a free cigar. To be honest I'm a skeptical person, when something is too good to be true it usually is. That being said, i still plan on going but will be bringing my own cigar as a precaution.

Smokenscotch
Just enjoyed a nice dram of Talisker 10 year. I cannot believe how much flavour you get from a 10 year scotch of Talisker. Nice stuff.
Hunter
Scotch is one of my more expensive ADs. Right now I have a bottle of The Glenlivet 12 year and a bottle of Ardbag 10 year. I really want a bottle of The Glenlivet 25 year before my birthday.
Louich
Im a fairly new scotch drinker, just starting to find my tastes, this map will be helpful!! Tried Oban 14yr the other day and really enjoyed it, the map will help me pick a couple similar ones. It's not that bad. Not one of my fav but depending on the price you can have it it's opkay (way too expensive here to be a good buy unfortunately..) Just picked up a couple bottles of the 16yr Lagavulin that were of sale. What can I say, its a beautiful peaty scotch that makes my mouth water just typing this. ON SALE! How much just for fun? That bottle is in the top five for sure! On my way back from Jamaica i picked up a couple of bottles of Scotch, Macallan Select Oak and Dewar 18yrs. Has anyone tried any of these? The Macallan will be very smooth. I was not fond of the oak finish but overall a nice scotch. The Dewar was always a 'next bottle up' for me I dont know why... I just got this bottle as a late xmas present...has anyone tried this particular scotch? Is it a blended vats or single malt? I never read or heard about that one in peticular. Just enjoyed a nice dram of Talisker 10 year. I cannot believe how much flavour you get from a 10 year scotch of Talisker. Nice stuff. One of the best distilleries around Scotland IMO! If you can get your hands on a destillers ed you'll love it !

Louich
You wish! These go for about 107 here in Qc! 80 bucks is a steal (I hope you stacked up this one is addictive lol)
cigars_eh
Your kidding me, 80 is amazing. Here in Ontario it goes for 115.
REASON
Oh I know guys, its around the same 115-125 here. I can get it at these prices on a usual basis so not need to get any more then 2-3 at a time. Whats saves us on prices is we are privatized so they can set a price and go to war with other stores. Louich
When you say save us you mean you and the other consumers or you work/own the store? I'm confused ! loll That being said I revisited the Talisker distillers edition (2000) and while not comparable to the 18 yrs old (top 2 in my list) it was a very very nice moment with the glass! Louich
ok ! No chances of that happenning here in Qc... The SAQ is a monopole that cannot be taken out of the equation qhen you talk about liquor (well I found a way around but then again... lol)

The SAQ is a monopole that cannot be taken out of the equation qhen you talk about liquor (well I found a way around but then again... lol) BC Liquor Stores are the same way, though the privately owned ones have to have a price that is comparable to BCLS so a guy can't get hosed if he doesn't make it in before they close at 8.
