Padron is winning!

I had a little free time this morning so I lit up a Padron 1964 Exclusivo Maduro. I’ve actually been on a bit of a Padron kick lately as I’m finding they are often unique, terrific cigars.

It’s a great looking cigar with a deep brown maduro wrapper. It’s got a pronounced box press which makes it seem slightly skinnier than your usual robusto. On the cold draw, the resistance is a little too loose but this is typical of Padron cigars (I’ve never had a plugged Padron).

I fire it up and initial impressions are wonderful. There’s a pronounced flavour of raisins in the early stages. In fact, if you have a hard time picking out flavours in cigars, give this one a try. I find that the ’64 series Padron’s consistently deliver this profile and you should be able to pick it out yourself!

At this point in the smoke, there’s a little bit of pepper that lingers on the finish. The pepper does not hang around for long however.

As I make my way through the cigar there is some sweetness present. It’s different than the sweetness you find in most Cubans, however. With Cubans I’m often reminded of honey, but in this case I’m tasting hints of banana bread and grape wine gums. These may sound like weird flavours, but it’s a delicious cigar!

If there’s one downside, it is that there isn’t much complexity. The flavour profile stays relatively consistent throughout. There’s also very little finish present. By finish, I’m referring to the flavour that is left on your tongue after a draw. With this cigar, the draws taste great, but then it’s gone.

The smoke output is very rich and enjoyable. It burns beautifully throughout. You can leave these cigars at rest for long periods with no concern of it going out. The ash also hangs on for one to two inches easily.

If you’re one of those guys that only smokes Cubans, I strongly suggest you pick up a Padron 1964 Series to mix things up a little. After all, variety is the spice of life!

Brand Padron Name Exclusivo Maduro Vitola Robusto Country of Origin Nicaragua Wrapper/Filler/Binder Nicaragua Box Code Unknown Date Smoked January 2, 2015 Paired With Coffee Tasting Notes Beautifully constructed with a unique flavour profile.
