  1. You might want to look at this cutter: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/offer-listing/B01GU0A29C/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new The Cuban Crafters Perfect Cutter is a solidly built piece of kit that works like a hot damn and should last forever. I keep one here in the house and one in the truck. At about $42 shipped they don’t really break the bank for most people. In fact Louis, you should look into stocking these, just saying! Cheers, John
  2. How about some future ash? Went to the mail today and found these waiting. My Father Flor de Las Antillas, 10 robustos and 10 toros. I think I was able to bring the humidor back to life as well. Wiped down 7 times over 4 days. Now seems to be holding at 69% with 5 Boveda 72’s in there. Fingers crossed!
  3. Picked up a wine cooler from Bestbuy for just under $200 over the holidays. I’ve found that our very dry Alberta climate makes using tupperdors/Boveda a great combo for keeping my sticks in a smokeable state. I can now keep everything at a constant 66°F throughout the year. The small humidor on the top was picked up off of Kijiji for $10. I cleaned it up and put some pluck foam in the bottom to hold all my small accessories in one place. The tabletop cutter is from Canada Humidor, a great piece of kit! Hoping everyone had a wonderful Christmas and wishing you all a Happy New Year! Cheers, John
  4. I just received an email saying my bleed tool has shipped.
  5. Hi folks, just an update on this subject. I had a hell of a time seasoning my humidor, I’ll blame that on our dry mountain climate! Tried the supplied humidifier without much luck. Then went with heartfelt bead humidifier, again this did not work well either, and yes it was oversized. This actually surprised me after reading so many complimentary reviews. I have finally realized very good results with the Cigar Oasis Ultra 2.0. After much experimenting with the humidity setting I am achieving 68% - 70% on my double calibrated Caliber IV hygrometer.
  6. I just backed this as well. Seems like a useful tool to protect my lighters from damage at a reasonable price.
  7. Absolutely beautiful job on the cedar. In case I ever try this in the future, do you have to leave any room for the cedar to expand at joints when seasoning or does it just absorb the moisture without expanding? Again, great looking job! Cheers, John
  8. I have been thinking of using Boveda packs but I figured what the hell I’ll try what Cigar Star recommends first. If that isn’t successful then I’ll try the Boveda. Another problem is that I only have about 20 cigars at present so I may have a bit of a problem stabilizing the rh for awhile. Hope to rectify that situation at the end of April, we’re heading to Key West for a week and there are supposedly some decent cigar shops and a factory in town. Anyway, the 2 week seasoning time is up tomorrow so I’ll have an update in a week or two. Thanks again to everyone who has chimed in! Cheers, John
  9. Thanks for the replies, kind of what I figured. There will be a bit of space as I’ll have to lay it on a bit of an angle so it clears the upper tray. I don’t think these are true beads, ie heartfelt, the manufacturer lists it as a crystal gel and they did confirm by email to use dw with just a couple of drops of 50/50 PG solution. The crystals look like spherical beads not like the stuff in a Drymistat tube. I’ll give it a whirl and see what happens. Thank you all again! Cheers, John
  10. Hi Everyone, My new 120 ct humidor should be seasoned and ready to go on Thursday. I plan to try using the supplied large gel/bead humidifier in the bottom of the humidor. The humidifier is approximately 61/2” x 21/2” x 3/4” in size so if laying flat it would take up valuable real estate that should be used for cigar storage. The humidor is glass topped, has an airflow rack in the bottom and a slotted tray so the humidifier is too large to attach to the walls. My question is, would placing the humidifier on edge between 2 dividers in the bottom, probably centred, work to effectively humidify my sticks? This way I’m only losing a space maybe 11/4” or so wide in the bottom of the box I saw a picture of one placed like this somewhere and it seems like a good use of space. The manufacturer recommends the use of this humidifier with just distilled water and a couple of drops of 50/50 for the initial charge and refills. Thanks for looking and I look forward to your suggestions and advice. Cheers, John
