Dross
Hello, I just purchased a wine fridge and wanted to convert it into a humidor. It has wood shelves that I’ve noticed had Mold on them. I have taken them out, cleaned them with baking soda, then with rubbing alcohol then stuck a dehumidifier in the unit for a couple hours to dry out the wood. The wood is still marked but I think I killed the Mold. Did I? Can I continue with this project ? Can anyone help me or get in touch with me please !!!! I would dip them in a 10% solution of bleach (with water). Bleach is your go to for killing mold spores. Louich
tricam_bob
Welcome to CCF. Too bad it's such a tragic event that lead you here. It sounds like there has been some spillage in that fridge so I would also want to make sure there aren't any seams or joins on the bottom where wine may have seeped? Personally I wouldn't risk those shelves and would be looking to build or buy some made from Spanish cedar. You'll want a bunch of Spanish cedar in there anyway so may as well start with the shelves. If you are going to go ahead with the shelves you have @Toolguyhas the solution. Cheers and good luck. Keep us informed. Bacchus
Toolguy
Please post photos of the fridge (open) and the shelves.
buck
You can lightly sand the moldy stained parts off as well, wear a mask and do it outdoors.
